NASW-CA Online Program: Regarding accommodations for online courses

The NASW-CA Chapter Online Continuing Education Program does not offer an audio feature to convert written information. However, there are many online text-to-speech applications one can download for free, as well as browser extensions that can assist individuals with converting text content to audio. One example is Read Aloud for Chrome which is "intended for users who prefer to listen to content instead of reading, those with dyslexia or other learning disabilities, and children learning to read."

You will also note that next to the course titles in all of the NASW-CA Chapter Online Continuing Education Program libraries, there is a link that describes the format used in the content: text-based; mixed-media 1 (incorporates short video clips that have closed captioning); and mixed-media 2 (incorporates recorded video from live presentations with no closed captioning). Additionally, the course description describes the course content including online content, case vignettes, reader exercises, web-based video clips, and so forth.

Program staff strongly encourage interested practitioners to register for one of the free courses first to experience how the online platform works before registering and paying for any online course. Each participant goes at their own pace and can access the content online 24/7 from their personal device. For questions about registering for one of the free courses, you can contact the online customer service by emailing support@naswca.org.

The other option is to visit the NASW National office’s online Social Work CE Institute, a separate online program that offers recorded and live webinars at a discounted fee for NASW members at https://naswinstitute.inreachce.com/.
