Thank you for your inquiry. The fastest and the best way to find specific licensing requirements and information is to go to the California Board of Behavior Sciences (BBS) website (https://www.bbs.ca.gov).  The BBS is the licensing and regulatory body for California LCSWs, LMFTs, and LPCCs.

The BBS has done an excellent job of providing all of the information necessary, and it is important to start with the following:

  1. ASW Registration Application, page 8, lists the mandated pre-license coursework for California LCSWs. https://www.bbs.ca.gov/pdf/forms/lcs/aswapp.pdf

  1. SW Schools in CA (last topic on webpage) lists the California MSW programs that did and did not include all mandated pre-license coursework in their program. https://www.bbs.ca.gov/applicants/lcsw.html

  1. Handbook for Future LCSWs is available by going to LCSW requirements and scrolling down to Forms and Pubs, choosing Publications. This handbook covers all licensing essentials. https://www.bbs.ca.gov/applicants/lcsw.html
